1.  Is QMax Maritime Mobile Internet available in my area?
We are currently expanding our coverage during this trial pilot period. Do note that our forecasts in offshore coverage are as follows:



Mar 2008 – Central Anchorage – Off Pasir Panjang, Off Tanjong Pagar, Off Sentosa
May 2008 – Eastern and Western Anchorage
June 2008 – Tuas, Sultan Shoal Lighthouse, Raffles Lighthouse

2.  Is QMax Maritime Mobile Internet available on mainland Singapore?
This service is meant for the Maritime Industry under the MPA WISEPORT initiative. Its main focus is for offshore usage. At the same time, support industry of the Maritime eco-system which is based on the mainland around our Harbour and Ports are welcome to subscribe to this service as there are coverage to coastal areas around our Harbour and Ports.

3.  How far offshore does QMax Maritime Mobile Internet cover?
Our coverage at full deployment is 15 to 20Km from Singapore’s shores. This will be achieved over the next 12 months during the WISPORT trial.

4.  If my vessel or office does not have coverage at the moment, will coverage be improved over the next 12 months?
Yes. As this is a pilot trial, both MPA and QMax will be gauging the demand as well as the use of our Maritime Mobile Internet within our Port waters and from the Maritime Industry. We will continue to deploy more base stations and provide pervasive coverage over the next 12 months.

Please assist our plans by providing feedback on where you require the service and at the same time, please bear with us as we will need to acquire appropriate sites for deploying more base stations to ensure better and more pervasive coverage over the next 12 months.

 

1.  What is my basic WISEPORT Maritime Subscription?
We are offering basic 512Kbps for trial customers together with a USB WIMAX Modem. This is a basic package plan which is provided free of charge to the first 500 Maritime subscriber over the next 12 months. An activation charge is applicable.

2.  How long is my FREE WISEPORT Basic 512Kbps Subscription?
The free WISEPORT Basic 512Kbps Subscription is available up to March 2009.

3.  What are the types of Modems available in my subscription?
Maritime Basic Package (512Kbps with Free Monthly Subscription during Pilot Period of 12 months) and USB Modem.

WIMAX Modem Router with 4 LAN ports and built-in WIFI

The WIMAX Modem Router with built-in WIFI will be available with slightly higher activation fee.
This model will be available for subscription in May 2008.

4.  Is there a limit to how much I can use my Internet connection?
No. QMax Maritime Mobile Internet high-speed Internet service is always on! And you have unlimited usage every month!

5.  Will there be other packages with different speed available?
Yes. We do offer packages with other speed. However the monthly subscription of such packages (higher speed) will not be offered free of charge for the pilot trial period. We also offer packages that come with different modems.Please see the options at the following link.WISEPORT Packages



1.  What are the minimum system requirements to use QMax service?
Your computer must have a 300 MHz processor, 128 Meg RAM, Windows 98, 2000, XP and Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher (or equivalent browser) to receive QMax Maritime Mobile Internet service.

2.  Will I need a phone line to connect to the Internet?
No. There are no phone lines required to use QMax Maritime Mobile Internet, and your service is always connected—with no busy signals or slow dial-up modems!

3.  Are Macintosh computers compatible with QMax? No.

4.  Can I use any Internet browser with QMax?
Yes. All of the major browsers function properly with QMax Maritime Mobile Internet.

5.  Can I use any email program with QMax?
Yes. All major email programs work with QMax Maritime Mobile Internet.

6.  Will my connection be fast enough for online-streaming?
Yes. Although connectivity may vary depending on distance to the transmitting tower and environmental conditions, online streaming and viewing of video is achievable.

7.  Will any ports or Internet sites be blocked?
No. However QMax DOES reserve the right to block any ports that it deems necessary in order to ensure network performance and abuse of the network by our subscribers.An example of such an abuse will be a subscriber’s notebook that has a virus that spreads itself via a non-standard TCP/IP port.

8.  Do I have to buy any equipment?
No. Generally, a modem will be provided under a normal service package plan.


1.  Do I have to install any software?
Yes, you have to install a driver that is either given to you after you have collected your USB modem with us or you may wish to download it at our website click here.
This is applicable to the USB modem only. If you are using a Router Modem with WIFI, no driver is required.

2.  What is the equivalent land based product which I am subscribing to?
You are subscribing to an equivalent of a land based ADSL Broadband service. The service level (SLA) and quality of service (QoS) is equivalent with the exception that this service does not require a telephone cable to be connected to your USB modem or modem router.

3.  What will the limits be, if any, for the size and speed of FTP downloads?
As with any Internet connection, the limitations will vary depending upon the content being downloaded as well as where the content is being downloaded from. QMax cannot be responsible for networks outside of its own.
